Tina Horwood, Choir Director
Mrs. Horwood is a proud graduate of Oak Bay High School, as are all four of her children. She considers herself fortunate to have taken over leadership of the choral program from Eileen Cooper in 1995. Since that time, she has devoted her all to the students of Oak Bay. During Tina’s tenure Oak Bay has carried on its tradition of excellence in choral music and the program has enriched hundreds of students’ lives. Under Tina’s leadership, Oak Bay High Choirs have toured extensively, won numerous awards and festivals, and hosted many visiting choirs and clinicians.
Tina is proud that students who go through the choir program come out with excellent skills as peers and teammates, while gaining leadership experience through Vocal Council and Teacher Assistant opportunities. When not in the choir room, Tina can be found teaching Math 12 or coaching the Oak Bay Ski & Snowboard team. Tina has been the musical director for School District 61’s Island Ukuleles since 1993. |
Steven Price, Choir Director, Director of Musical Theatre and the Artistic Director for the Dave Dunnet Community Theatre
Mr. Price is a strong leader in the community conducting many choirs in the Greater Victoria area. Steven is in demand as a vocal soloist and has performed with symphony orchestras in Toronto, Europe, and the United States. He holds a bachelor of Music with distinction and a Masters in Educational Leadership from the University of Victoria.
Mr. Price has led over 15 full production musicals at Oak Bay, utilizing student artists on-stage, off-stage, and in the pit orchestra. Steven believes that every student has the potential for greatness and his role as a teacher is to provide the opportunities they need. |
Tessa Bell, Choir Director
Ms. Bell has had a passion for music education from a young age and conducted her first band in performance at the age of 16. From there, she went on to study saxophone and voice and graduated from the University of Victoria with a Bachelor of Music Education and a Bachelor of Secondary Education, both with distinction. While at Uvic, Ms. Bell was proud to serve the community as President of the University of Victoria Student Music Educators’ Association, Music Education Assistance Program Coordinator, Music Discoveries Day Camp Coordinator, and BandFest Coordinator.
Ms. Bell believes music programs are a perfect way to develop confidence, leadership, and community in young people and is honoured to have a role in the process. Ms. Bell’s other passion is connecting kids to the outdoors, which she has had the opportunity to do as a summer camp manager and leader for the past twelve years. She also loves to get outdoors herself and can often be found on a mountain or out in her canoe. |
