OAK BAY CHOIR THRIFTY FOODS & FAIRWAY MARKET Fundraiser

Picture
The Choir Gift Certificate/Smile Card fundraiser allows your student to earn money for their Choir account when you buy groceries.  Unlike other grocery store fundraisers, this program allows individual students to fundraise for themselves, as opposed to fundraising for the general choir program.

A schedule is released for Spring 2021, outlining when cheques or online payments are due (always a Wednesday), as well as the dates when the Smile Cards and Gift Certificates may be picked up (always a Thursday, 2 weeks later).   There are 8 of these cycles this spring, starting mid-February and finishing mid-June.

The two-week delay between the due date and the pick-up date allows time for the cheques and online payments to be processed, and the cards ordered and collected from Thrifty’s and Fairways.

We request payment by cheque or the school cash online CHOIR link, to allow us to credit individual students for the sales (put funds into their student choir accounts).  This is the same reason new cards need to be purchased each time (DO NOT RELOAD OLD CARDS AT THE STORE), as this is a STUDENT fundraiser rather than a general program fundraiser.  This is a different format than some groups use for Thrifty’s/Fairways.

The student rebate from Thrifty Foods is 4-5% of every purchase; from Fairway Market it is 6%. (The fluctuation from Thrifty’s is dependent on the amount of total sales from everyone.)  For every $100 of Smile Cards that a student purchases from Thrifty’s, they would get a minimum of $4 in their choir account.  $100 of purchases from Fairways results in $6 in their account.  A motivated student could sign up five families to buy $200 every two weeks, and receive $40-$50 from Thrifty’s or $60 from Fairways every two weeks.  Considering how often most of us shop for groceries, these figures could add up quickly, and end up being a very easy fundraiser for most students.

The most effective way to use this fundraiser is to send in post-dated cheques for the entire spring.  Since a schedule is sent out at the beginning of the 2021, this is easy to do.  We will remind you a few days ahead of each due date, but using post-dated cheques means that you don’t have to remember to send in cheques twice a month. If you have other families participating, you can either collect cheques from them (payable to OAK BAY SECONDARY) and submit them to the school, OR, you can have them write you a cheque and you just submit one cheque for the total.

IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT THE STUDENT NAME BE ON THE CHEQUE – especially when the student has a different last name from the purchaser.  THRIFTY FOODS Smile Cards are available in $50, $100, $200 or $300 denominations. FAIRWAY MARKET Gift Certificates are available in $20, $25 and $50 denominations.

SAMPLE CHEQUE – You must do the following when you submit the cheques.

If you have any questions, please contact Megan Bergmann at pm_b@telus.net

Here is an example of how to fill out your post-dated  cheques. It is very important to include the choir student’s name:

REMINDER -- PLEASE DO NOT “RELOAD” the cards at the store, as the student will not get the credit to apply to their individual choir account (the credit will go into the general choir program).

OAK BAY CHOIR COFFEE FUNDRAISER FEATURING FERNWOOD COFFEE

Picture
The Fernwood Coffee Company  is teaming up with the Oak Bay Choir again this year, to provide an excellent fundraising opportunity for your choir student.  A local staple of the coffee culture since 2007, the Fernwood Coffee Company is offering 5 of their excellent coffees as a way for students to earn money for their choir accounts.  For every bag of coffee beans sold, $5.00 goes directly into your student’s choir account!

Coffee List:
STRONGBACK (Very Dark), WESTCOAST (Dark), FERNWOOD (Medium), 1976 ESPRESSO or MILE ZERO (Decaf)

There are three different ways you can order your coffee through this fundraiser:
  1. fill out an order form(s) for each deadline as it occurs (8 in total), or
  2. write post dated cheques for any of the deadlines, and submit pre-orders at the beginning of the year, or
  3. make one order and payment at the beginning of the year for all of the coffee deadlines and enjoy your monthly coffee order hassle free!

Download and complete the order form and
return it to the Choir room by the order due date. Your coffee will be delivered to the students  on the subsequent provided pick up dates.
